Gun Control and A Culture of Deniability
Reading Time: 1 minute

In times of atrocity, America weeps together. Recently, the killings in Last Vegas brought people together again. Previously, it was South Carolina and Sandy hook. For one second, our shared brokenness connect us. We realize our vulnerability and the fragility of our own existence. Our biggest enemy is no longer the distant or imaginary terrorist. It is our neighbor. Unfortunately, those few days of sorrow and resiliency are not a reflection of the reality. America has a gun problem. For too long, misguided policies and inhumane laws focused at expanding guns at any costs have normalized a culture of deniability. There is a persistence effort not to discuss, not to recognize and not to address national tragedies caused by inhumane laws. Furthermore, the lack of courage and the corruption of political leaders have done justice to no-one. They would rather protect their next campaign donations than to stand-up against avoidable national tragedies.

What can lead someone to commit such unbearable atrocities is out of my speculation, but I can assure you political rhetorics and shared brokenness won’t resolve our culture of deniability. Inaction and indifference will only make things worst. As long as, we opt to remain in this vicious cycle of inertia, we just have to pray that our family is not there when the next tragedy occurs. We already expect it. Our mind has become accustomed to it. I wonder how many will die before we stop flirting with madness.
