With the pending election of Judge Kavanaugh, America will further become a nation where a small insignificant minority creates legislations and institutions that imprison the vast majority to their political desires and wishes. Over the past decades, the culture of winning at all costs has gradually moved the country toward an aristocratic dictatorship that is legalized in the name of democracy. Furthermore, the shortsightedness of Trump voters and the lack of moral conviction expressed by the elected members of congress have reinforced this trend. Thus, voting Judge Kavanaugh, with its political tactics and mandate, will certainly cement a conservative majority for decades, but his election will just exacerbate the trust gap between Americans and their institutions.

As I previously stated, Trump’s election would be a consequential one that will affect America beyond the Trump mandate. Most GOP members might castigate him publicly or privately, but in reality, the GOP is and has been a reflection of Trump for years. The party epitomized the culture of winning at all costs. It has legitimized the war on the poor and institutionalized racism, supported a culture of misogyny and crony capitalism … It is no longer an aspirational party with a binding and hopeful vision of the future.  It clearly has been the “Grand Old Party’; a nihilistic party for years that claims to follow scriptures and God, but is evidently morally bankrupt. Trump is just its least astute product, but its most consequential artifact.

In reality, politics decide who has the power, but not who hold the truth. America can and will never go back to the “good old days” where men won’t be accountable for their behaviors. Times have changed and unless our institutions reflect our progress, they merely become a mean to an end; a pathway to legalize oppression and discrimination; a place well too familiar too many of the country’s citizens.
